Fall Front Porch

Last week I gave my Facebook followers a sneak peek of my fall front porch decor.

Decorating for fall comes a little later around here....usually around the first of October.  Doing it in September just feels like we are trying to rush the seasons.  I for one do not like winter, so rushing fall in seems counter productive to me!

I switched out the flag to this new "Autumn" one...

...and added some orange and purple mini lights.

These huge Mums on either side of the stairs were just $20 each.  McG and I found them one Sunday on a drive in the county.

A few faux gourds and some scarecrows round out the display.

I am really loving how the warm fall colours seem to pop off the dark charcoal colour of the house.  It makes me want to snuggle up with a hot cup of cocoa and watch the world go by!

Thanks for visiting!

I Succumbed to Peer Pressure!

Well I did it!!  I said I wouldn't but I did...

I fell to peer pressure and brought out some of my fall decor yesterday.  You know what made me do it...all those great fall home tours.  You know the ones, with the clean houses and the lovely fall pumpkins and leaves.

I wanted my house to look as good as those ones.

I didn't bring out too much, just enough to feel a little more  festive.

I'm going to hold off another week  or so on decorating the front porch.  My Impatiens are still blooming so nicely that I don't want to change them out for Mums just yet.

It's still 80 degrees here, so it's not really very fall like.

Darn those home tours...while it was nice to see all the Fall inspiration...it really did make me
feel behind the eight-ball to decorate for the season!!

Are you putting out your Fall decor, or are you waiting a little longer???

I'd love to know!!

Adding Some Small Fall Touches

I thought I should share some small FALL touches I've added to the house,
before it's time to break out the Christmas decorations...

I'm not really one to go overboard inside my home for Fall.
I'm not into the scary Halloween type of decorations.
In fact, truth be told, I don't like to be scared and I shied away from homes
that were decorated that way when I was younger and out trick or treating.

Pumpkins and Mums are my go-to Fall decorations.

I purchased this "lovely" a few weeks ago on a trip to Target.
He was $7.00 and more than I would have typically spent on something like this,
but I had a giftcard, so that justified it for me.

I added him to the vignette on the sofa table in the livingroom.

This copper mercury glass pumpkin I picked up at Home Sense last year on clearance after Halloween.
He's been in storage every since and I was happy to find him in one of my boxes.

This beauty I also purchased last year.

This guy is a permanent fixture on my kitchen counter.

I found this little velvet beauty on clearance at a small gift shop in our area.
And added to the vignette with the Target jute pumpkin.

I love the texture they bring to this area of my home.

A few more glass pumpkins found their way into vignettes on the end tables in the living room.

I hope your enjoying great Fall weather in your area,
and decorating your home for the season!

Happy Thanksgiving and Fall Decorating on the Porch

It's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada.

We are celebrating today with McG's family here at our home.

I have two turkeys cooking in electric ovens in the garage
...twice the stuffing and twice the dark meat!

I thought I'd show you today the Fall decor on our front porch.
I'm excited to have a porch at this house,
it's  like having another room to decorate!

I don't do "scary" for Fall and Halloween, mostly because
I'm a "scare-dy cat"!

This wreath I brought with me from the other house.

As well as this metal box filled with flowers that I used on my front door last fall.

I've added some pillows to the table and chairs and a few "faux" pumpkins and gourds.

Wishing you a great weekend
and
Happy Thanksgiving from here in Ontario Canada!

Cool Temperatures and Thoughts of Fall

The weather is cool here today and very breezy...
I have said recently that I felt that summer has really passed us by here since we've been so busy packing up our current home and working over at our new home.

There are just about two weeks left until we leave this house.
We haven't entertained all summer - in fact we have yet to spend any time in our backyard at all
...except of course when we are cutting the lawn.

Even the gardens got a little bit of neglect this summer.

I am really looking forward to the fall...

When things will slow down a bit...hopefully

and our stuff will be in its new home...

where I will have new rooms to decorate for my favourite season...

We will certainly miss our current home...
and our yard

But today...I can look back
on Fall in this home
with very fond memories...

I'm enjoying the day...
HOPE YOU ARE TOO!!

Adding Fall Touches to our Home

In amongst helping McG get ready for hunting this weekend, I had a few minutes to add some FALL touches to our home.
The weather here is cooler now and it's beginning to get the smell of fall in the air.

I don't go all out for fall, just some simple touches to add some of the colours of the season to our home.
I LOVE oranges, and yellows and reds but don't use them much in the decor of our home
...sticking more to cooler colours like blues and greens for our everyday decor.
So adding these warm colours just makes them POP - and I love that!

First up on the sideboard
(I don't have a mantle upstairs in our home - so I decorate my sideboard like I would a mantle)

Just some small silk flowers in my owl vase, my collection of green and blue bottles,
and a free printable I found.
(and before you ask me where...I forgot to write down the blog I found it on, and cannot find it again...so if anyone knows, please let me know in the comments - I really would love to give them the credit!)

Some of you got a sneak peek of this image on my new facebook cover page.

I added a scarecrow print I found at the local thrift shop ($3)
and a glass pumpkin to the top of the china cabinet.

I purchased this owl planter at Kirkland's in Michigan on our last trip to the States!
I love how it resembles a pumpkin!

I added an acorn candle and leaf dish to the media console - both I already had here!

The kitchen shelf got the two owls McG bought me for my birthday,
along with some fall floral pics and a white ceramic pumpkin.
McG, guy that he is, loves to tell people he bought me new hooters for my birthday!!

The entryway table got one of the Better Homes and Gardens floral arrangements I found recently at Dollarama - the other one went on the bathroom counter.

It doesn't take much time or effort to bring some FALL touches to your home,
And it really doesn't have to stretch your budget either.
I added all these touches for less than $30.
The floral pics came from the local dollar store, I may have spent about $10 on those.
The only other things I purchased were the scarecrow print and the orange owl planter and those totalled $15.

Are you adding FALL decor to your home?  I'd love to hear about it!
Better yet, leave me a link in the comments, so I can come on over
and check it out!

Fall Door Decor

Ok - I know that most bloggers have already had their fall decor up for sometime...but I am not one to rush these things.  I like to take a slower approach, and let's face it - who wants to think about pumpkins and scarecrows when we still have 95 degree weather like today here in Ontario??

I did, however, take down my summer wreath from the front door.
In its place I added this...

This lovely flat tin "bucket" was one of my summer yard sales finds.  I love its yellow, chippy, rusty colour.
I added $4.00 worth of flowers I purchased at my local Dollarama store.  I chose orange and purple flowers along with some co-ordinating ribbons.

The colours give off the FALL vibe but are also bright enough to be seen well from the street.

I also LOVE how the colours POP OFF my blue front door.

Slowly but surely I will add more FALL touches to my home, however, most won't go up until October...that's when I kick it into high gear...so stay tuned!!

Do you have your FALL decorations up yet...or are you like me, and savouring the last days of summer?

Fall Outdoor Decor

It's a beautiful day here today in Southern Ontario...temps in the mid 50's and sunny!  I have had my outdoor  fall décor up for sometime now...actually really early on in September.  The neighbours probably thought I was a little crazy putting it out there when the temperatures were still in the 80's, but it seems that fall comes way too fast around here, and I wanted to be able to enjoy it for awhile!

This is a view of our home from the street, with our maple tree a gorgeous yellow - I swear every morning when I get up it is yellow-er (is that a word?) than the day before...You can see in the background a few of our fall décor items...nothing too scary here at this house - just the right mix of fall and Halloween décor.  Let's take a closer look...

a scarecrow out by the elm...

a ghost in a wine barrel planter on the side of the driveway...and a fall wreath on the tree...

...another look from the street

A closer look at the porch and we find the pumpkin planter filled with mums and another wreath on the front door...

For this wreath I chose a mix of orange mums and yellow sun flowers to repeat the yellow that is so prominent right now in the colour of the maple leaves on our tree...It also helps the wreath to "pop" off the blue door when looking from the street...

here's a closer view showing the autumn leaves and the yellow butterfly.

I have saved the best Halloween decoration for last....

This is Sloan, our black cat, who is waiting patiently at the door for his Momma to be done taking pictures outside...ISN'T HE SCARY!!!

I love adding seasonal touches to our home...do you decorate for fall or Halloween? I'd love to hear how you decorate for the season!
