Weekend Finds!

This past Saturday I was out on the yard-sale circuit again!  I really find it a great way to start my weekend!

McG unfortunately wasn't with me for the morning hunt as he had to work, but we did hit one sale in the afternoon.

My morning stops rewarded me with this...

A lovely aqua blue enamelware pot - $2, two sets of coasters - 50 cents total - and some FREE Martha Stewart Living magazines...

At the afternoon stop, I found a marble turntable and an adjustable strainer basket for your sink, sold together as a "lot" for $1!!!
The woman holding the sale said she didn't want to bring anything back into the house.  I was excited to find the turntable because I had been looking for one for awhile.  The strainer was just a BONUS!

The coasters have been set out in the living room, the pot has been added to my china cabinet display and that marble turntable was the perfect size for my fridge...

McG thought I was crazy when I said I wanted it for the fridge.  But it helps organize all the little jars of condiments on the top shelf, and now you don't have to move everything to get what you want from the back...just turn the table and find what you are looking for!

Hope you found some good stuff this week!!

Thrifty finds...weekend three

This past weekend, McG and I spent another Saturday morning hitting the yard sale circuit.  He has been lucky enough to have had the last couple of Saturdays off from work and we have enjoyed the time together.

We found a few goodies and spent less than $7 - total!!

The 2 electric coolers were FREE!! (but that was because they weren't working)

The Chandelier, the urn and the cone shaped planter were $2 each

The Yankee Candle was 10 cents (the scent is Hazelnut Coffee and it had only been lit once)

The brass crab was 50 cents

THE TOTAL SPENT WAS $6.60!!!

Here's a close -up of the urn. It's made of plaster and is more for indoor use, rather than outdoors.

McG got the larger of the coolers working and all he did was plug it in - LOL!  The other cooler was a no go - He thinks that they may have overheated the larger one and it shut itself off and they thought it was broken.  The smaller one needed re-wiring but even after that it didn't work so he is thinking the free-on cube was the problem.  It's no loss really since it was FREE!!

The chandelier was marked $5 but when the woman told him it wasn't working, he haggled her down to $2 - he's good at that - Me not so much!  She apologized for it not working and he told her it was okay because I wanted him to take the wiring out and use it for candles in our gazebo.  She said WOW I never thought of that - I can give you your $2 back if you leave me the chandelier because I have a gazebo!  He said sorry and chuckled.  I'm sure she was kicking herself for not thinking of that.

Once we arrived home, he stripped the wiring out of it and I washed up the glass hurricanes.

He put it all back together and added a length of chain so that we could hang it from the center of our gazebo.  It's been raining here pretty much since then, but I was able to get out there today and get a picture of it with some tea light candles in it.

The metal was a rusty brown colour, so I just left it that way, no painting required.  Here's a closer look.

The glass hurricanes have a "seeded" or wet look to them.  It really looks lovely and is a great addition to our gazebo and a steal at only $2!!  That's my kind of budget project!

We really have been finding some good things in our Saturday morning travels.

I'm really looking forward to getting out there again this weekend!

Thrifty Finds...

McG is away this weekend having some "guy" time with his brother, brother-in-law and cousin, so I took advantage of this weekend time alone to do something I love.   I love to travel the yard-sale circuit on Saturday mornings and I lucked out today as there were quite a few of sales today, including one that went on for ten blocks! I set out at 8 am because the early bird gets the worm as they say, and I wanted to get there while there was still some good stuff!!

Here are the treasures I found today - these lovely bookends for $2! They are about 5 inches tall and in great condition.

A clock for $3, the mirror was $4 and the wicket tray and the little sign were a buck!  I haven't gotten this lucky in a long time and was anxious to get home and find a place for my treasures.

The clock got cleaned up and found a home on the buffet in the dining room, along with the bookends and some green glass that I have been collecting from the local Value Village.  It is the year for green you know!  These little treasures were not more than $1 each and I've been finding them over the past few weeks.

The best deal of the day I have left for last.  Remember this planter I showed you last week - it had bamboo stakes in the middle that I am hoping my Morning Glories will grow up???

Well the bamboo stakes have been replaced by a large obelisk that I found at a yard sale today for $5.00!!!
That sucker is huge and weighs about 20 pounds...it got a quick spray of oil rubbed bronze spray paint and then off it went to its new home...

I think it was a fabulous day for yard sales - I got some great stuff and I didn't even spend $20 for the whole lot!!

Have you found any treasures lately?  I'd love to hear about them!
