Tweaking the Media Cabinet...

Okay those of you that have been following here for awhile now have seen a few different versions of our media cabinet.  For those of you who don't remember, here's a quick look back...

This is how it started out - as a bookcase that my parent's bought back in the '70's.

Here I had tried to hide the ugly faux woodgrain on the doors.

When McG won the TV and we needed a cabinet for it, we took off the top hutch part and took off the doors.

Then I added white foam core to the back, to lighten it up and make the tchochkes stand out more.

Back then when I added the foam core, many of you suggested I should have added a color to the backing.
A couple of weeks ago, I found some great wrapping paper on clearance.

I hung onto it for a while, thinking that I would use it to wrap a gift for an upcoming shower, but this week I decided to tweak the media cabinet once again. I emptied the shelves and took out the foam core and wrapped it in this paper.

I put it back in place and added back in the shelves and then stood back to admire.  The coral color of the paper reads more of a red inside the cabinet, but I LOVED it!

Then I went around the house and collected up all my owls.

They all have a new home and I am just loving it.  A whole new look for just 89 cents!
Gotta love it!!

Are you doing some cheap tweaks at your house - I'd love to hear about them!

  1. I like the graphic design on the the paper and it looks great as a backdrop for your owls. You already know what my cheap tweak was this week, with "recycling" some fabric. :)

    1. Vicky this was a very well made (and expensive for the times) bookcase that my parents purchased back in the 1970's - I remember it vividly in our gold and green livingroom! My sister had it in her home for awhile and then it was passed over to us...I couldn't see throwing it out in order to fit a media cabinet in...so a re-purpose was just the ticket!
