Adding Colour to the Front Porch

Let's face it - like most of North America - we are having a weird spring...One of colder temperatures and lots of snow and now mostly rain...They are predicting rain here everyday this week with heavy thunderstorms towards the end of the week.

I took advantage of a lull in the rain yesterday to finish up cleaning the garden and to add some spring touches to our front porch.

You have seen my spring wreath and how I made it here.
This is a reminder of what it looks like on my front door...

I also added a new spring flag that I purchased at Wal Mart when we were in Florida...this flag was $4.  That's a whole lot cheaper than the $22 it costs here in Canada!!

Cardinals are one of my favourite birds and I love how the colours look with our brick.
Here's a better look at it and the wreath on the front door.

I decided to bring out even more colour and used the flowers from my spring centerpiece, shown below...

...and added them to a planter that is kept by the front door.

There are Stella-Dora day-lillies that are planted in this pot, however, they are not coming up yet and the addition of these silk flowers adds more spring colour to the porch while we wait for the warm weather to entice the day-lillies to sprout.

Here's a final view of the whole porch area...as you can tell the rain started again before I could finish up.

Even though the weather is cloudy and grey here in Ontario this week...my porch is sunny and bright with all the new spring additions!

Will Spring Ever Get Here???

OK today I am showing the new spring arrangement that I made for the ledge or faux mantle between my kitchen and dining room...I started out by purchasing about $15 worth of supplies from my local dollar store.  Beautiful things in lovely spring colours.  And YES, they sat here on the dining room table like this for many days...

It peaked the interest of this guy and I knew that if I wanted things to stay lovely, I had to do something with them pronto!  Doesn't he look smug here..like he's saying "What?! - you left them here unattended...they are community property now!" - LOL  (Actually I think I startled him as I snuck up on him with my camera)

I got out my trusty metal planter - the same one I used for my Christmas arrangement, and got busy.  I didn't even put floral foam in the bottom - I just tucked the flowers loosely into it, tweaking them as I went.  Once that was done, I put the plastic eggs on shisk-a-bob sticks and tucked them in as well.

I added some owls, a bunny and a pretty spring box to the end of the ledge as well...

There you have it!   A great spring/Easter display - just the thing to help make me feel Spring is a little closer here in Ontario...I needed this because this is view from my patio door in the kitchen this morning...

As you can see...someone forgot to tell Mother Nature that we should be warming up and having sunny skies...

Hope the weather is warm and sunny where you are!

"Spring"-ing out a New Wreath!

Last Friday we had about 4 inches of snow here...and tomorrow they are forecasting another winter storm watch and are predicting about 5-6 more inches of snow.

I am NOT  a person that likes winter...and we will be travelling south in the next couple of weeks to find the sun and some warmer temperatures...in the meantime, I wanted to add a little SPRING to my home.

I purchased some flowers at the dollar store...

and then I took apart the Valentine's wreath that I had made for our front door...This grapevine wreath really has seen many re-inventions!

I searched through my stash of scarves and came up with a pretty orange and pink polka-dotted one.  For me scarves are so much easier than ribbon, and they are a great item to recycle in all sorts of decorating projects...either in a wreath or as a table runner.

I added the flowers to the wreath along with the scarf, just tucking them between the grapevine.  I never use glue to secure things because I am forever dismantling the wreath to re-use again.

I then tucked back in some of the white roses that were used on the Valentine's wreath as well and hung it on my front door.

Its a great pop of spring colour and gives me a little hope that maybe the snow will be gone soon and spring weather is just around the corner...Here's a closer look!

Here's hoping the weather is spring-like where you are!!!
